I want to bring you up to date on JASNA. As you know, membership in the national organization is mandatory for all those wishing to join a local region. You pay your dues directly to JASNA and they monitor regional membership lists. One benefit from this system is that Sheila, our treasurer, receives a monthly list of members, which simplifies her bookkeeping. Our Maine region voted to eliminate local dues and therefore we must cover the costs of each meeting from our registration fees. The good news is that last month JASNA returned a percent of our national dues to us, which we’ll use to bring you a special program in September. Stay tuned! Our JASNA dues pay for the Newsletter with news and pictures from other regions. Look for us in the next issue! You also receive a monthly update via email with news and events. My favorite perk is Persuasions, containing the wonderful papers from the AGM. JASNA also funds the International Visitor program in which scholars spend a summer of research and study at Chawton. Last summer, University of Maine professor Misty Kreuger won that coveted prize. She’ll share her experiences in the UK when we meet on May 12. On the local front, check out our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/janeaustensocietyofnorthamericamaine. Rarely a day goes by without a ‘like’ from our many viewers. Thank you, Karen McGehee Webb, for giving so many JA fans a chuckle or something to ponder. Pamelia Strayer, our webmaster, has given us the option of registering for our meeting at our website, jasnamaine.org. I urge you to give it a try
